I loved this article about Business Analytics.
The guy uses Web pages suggested links to expose the evidence that a Datawarehouse is not necessarily the best way to start with Business Analytics.
And one thing became obvious to me:  The business has to know how to process this data.  But most of all, they need to know what data they are looking for.  They must have a strategy to use analytics to gain a read on data they can't get with their standard ERP database.
That means, InMemory databases like SAP HANA are useless if you are looking for realtime decisions based on data warehouses... You need to get your ERP database available on HANA in order to make it efficient.
But with big data comes big bucks.  The organisation need to find the sweet spot where the money spent is actually helping the decision process.
Which ad did appear on this page when it loaded...?  Do you think this decision was based on a 5Tb database running a data warehouse, or was it based on smaller chunks of data efficiently organized?

Most of us don't really understand Business Analytics or use it correctly.  Instead of using the information first and then building an history with it, we start cumulating data, and then we say: "Ok, now what do I know from all this data?"  And most of the time we react based on this old data instead of taking actions about what's happenning now.
